Project Name:
HOUGHTON-DONNER HOUSE OFFICE CONVERSION
Program:
Relocation of City landmark house and conversion to offices for local non-profit organization.
Description:
As the former residence of Donner Party survivor Eliza Donner-Houghton as well as being an excellent surviving example of the Italianate style, the Houghton-Donner House enjoys recognition as a local landmark as well as listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
In the direct path of development and under a looming new multi-level concrete parking structure, this fine house was offered to anyone with the capacity to move it. Our proposal involved relocating the house to the Hensley Historic District a few blocks north, while converting the former rooming house into corporate offices for a local non-profit housing financier/developer. The proposal also included the relocation and renovation of an existing two-story Victorian on the new site to better tie the relocated landmark into its new context.
