Project Name:
COLLEGE AVENUE COTTAGE
Program:
New three bedroom, two bath house, 1230 s.f..
Description:
The extremely narrow dimensions of the lot (25’ wide, 115’ deep), as well as the City’s strict regulations against two story development on substandard-sized lots drove nearly every aspect of this design.
After encountering neighborhood opposition to a scheme with a partial second story, the design challenge was to fit the desired program into the allowable footprint. By utilizing vaulted ceiling spaces, connecting views through various rooms, and careful placement of windows and openings, this small house feels and functions much larger than it is in reality.
